Locking Plates

Locking screws and plates are currently available in sizes 3.5mm 2.7mm 2.4mm 2.0mm
Plates have dual combination stacked mono-axial locking holes that consist of a conical shaped twin start threaded hole with ball radius over top.
Screws are AO compatible with a twin start threaded head and HC threaded shaft.
Benefits of using locking over standard compression are as follows:
A locked construct creates a secure fixation when used in conjunction with a compatible locking screw, providing stability, and a reduced risk of primary and secondary losses of reduction. The plates do not need to be compressed against the bone to create a stable fixation, and thus reduces plate to bone contact, which in turn reduces complications caused by vascular trauma to periosteal tissue through preservation of blood supply.

    Locking plugs are used to protect the threaded holes during anatomical bending of a locking plate. They should also be placed when inserting a screw is not possible due to lack of bone stock, this will help retain the overall strength of the plate.

    Pancarpal Arthrodesis Locking plates are used to treat subluxations or luxations of the middle carpal and carpometacarpal joints which are associated with disruption of the accessory carpal ligaments, palmar fibrocartilage and palmar ligaments. They provide a mix of DCP and locking to achieve a more rigid fixation.
